My name is Amanda Colemon, and I am the owner of A Chance for Change LLC. I founded A Chance for Change an organization that provides recovery and support services for mental health and substance abuse counseling for those who are transitioning from incarceration back into their communities in Hampton Roads Virginia. As the founder of A Chance for Change, I have an educational background in Law and Human Services receiving my Master's Degree in Law from Regent School of Law University where I graduated in May 2022. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Gannon University in 2009. I am a proud member and facilitator with NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness) as a peer facilitator. I have my Virginia Department of Behavioral Service as certified as a Peer Support Specialist. I am also certified by the State of Virginia as a Mediator/Facilitator for the General District Courts. As an experienced community advocate and mental health professional, I am skilled in program development and community outreach, as a resource liaison who thrives on advocating for the voice of the community. I have a strong background as a law graduate, I also strongly support, along with a team of certified professionals, where our mission is based on being solution focused while setting goals based on each individual’s needs. As an experienced and trained professional, I am knowledgeable of the vast social economic services; such as Medicaid, Social Security, SNAP, Workforce Job Training, Mental Health, and Substance abuse resources. I demonstrate effective communication skills in working with various demographic populations of those dealing with a mental health diagnosis, substance abuse, at-risk youth, and crisis management in addition to the child and adult welfare systems. As a community activist and leader, our organization has received the Rising Star Award from 211 of Hampton Roads Virginia 2020 and 2021. I have also received several nominations for the ACHI magazine and have been published in the Returning Citizens Magazine. I have a strong passion for helping others and serving those who are less fortunate and in need of assistance.
